Waiting on Wednesday #159

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

KALAHARI (Corpus #3) BY JESSICA KHOURY

Goodreads Description:

Deep in the Kalahari Desert, a Corpus lab protects a dangerous secret…
But what happens when that secret takes on a life of its own?

When an educational safari goes wrong, five teens find themselves stranded in the Kalahari Desert without a guide. It’s up to Sarah, the daughter of zoologists, to keep them alive and lead them to safety, calling on survival know-how from years of growing up in remote and exotic locales. Battling dehydration, starvation and the pangs of first love, she does her best to hold it together, even as their circumstances grow increasingly desperate.

But soon a terrifying encounter makes Sarah question everything she’s ever known about the natural world. A silver lion, as though made of mercury, makes a vicious, unprovoked attack on the group. After a narrow escape, they uncover the chilling truth behind the lion’s silver sheen: a highly contagious and deadly virus that threatens to ravage the entire area—and eliminate life as they know it.

In this breathtaking new novel by the acclaimed author of Origin and Vitro, Sarah and the others must not only outrun the virus, but its creators, who will stop at nothing to wipe every trace of it.

Hardcover, 368 pages
Expected publication: February 24th 2015 by Razorbill
Pre-Order here.

I adore Jessica. And I love the two books I have read by her so far. I just cannot wait to read Kalahari. <3 Because it sounds so so awesome. And I love the cover too. And just, ack. This book will be stunning. I just hate waiting, lol. Wishing I could read it right away. <3 This might seem like a series, and it sort of is, but then again, not. Because the books are not about the same character. Just the same company, Corpus. So yeah. You do not need to have read Origin and Vitro before reading Kalahari. Though you should, because both books are awesome. Anyway. I also blogged about the cover in July, here. <3
What are you waiting for on this sunny wednesday?

"I said that you may have her, and you may," said the queen, speaking harshly, as if to an
annoying child. "But what you don't seem to understand is that when a queen threatens
repercussions against someone who has wronged her, she must follow through on those threats.
If she does not, she is inviting anarchy to her doorstep. Do you want anarchy, Princess?"

~

Review: The Thickety: The Whispering Trees by J. A. White

I'm so excited that I got to read this book early. Though it was also a bad thing, because now I must wait even longer for a third book. Hmph. But yeah. I do not regret reading this book already. Because I loved it a whole lot. Even with that kind of evil ending. But yess. I know book three will be epic. Though waiting for 2016 is torture.

This book starts right where book one ended. With Kara and Taff having entered the Thickety. Which I found to be all kinds of awesome. And it starts an very amazing adventure. There is just so much to love about this sequel. Though I do wish it had been even longer. Hmph. I did not want this book to end. And then. Evil ending :D

There is so much to love in this book. First there is the stunning writing. I found it to be all kinds of awesome. I loved reading about Kara. I loved reading from her point of view. Though the very short prologue is from the point of view of Safi. Whom I loved getting to know. Though I am all kinds of worried about what will happen next with her. Ack. She is the same age as Taff, so still so young. I do wish there had been more from her view, but that's okay. The prologue was awesome enough. And I love Kara too much to give her up, hih. Another thing I really love about these books are all the different creatures. Some are scary and awful but some are so cute. Loved reading everything.

I must be honest and say that I was sad to notice that there was no Lucas in this book. Sad face. But I can't be too upset about it. Because it made sense. And there wasn't room for him yet. But oh. He better be in book three. Cause I need him. Anyway. There are other characters in this book. And ack. I loved getting to know them all. Though there are so many betrayals. Which made my heart hurt. Yet I was also so surprised. Which I loved. One new character is Mary. Whom I would love to learn even more about.

I'm not going to talk about all the things that happen in this book. Because it is all so exiting and different and so so good. This book is an easy read, which makes me happy. Though, yeah, I wouldn't have minded if it had been even longer. Yet it was still long enough to be perfect. This sequel is not as sad as book one was. Because they aren't in the village anymore. No people to hurt Kara. Which made me both happy and sad. As I love depressing things. Yet this book was no less exciting than the first.

I just loved everything in The Thickety: The Whispering Trees. I adored reading about Kara. And her struggle with being a Witch. If she is good or evil. But then. There is one thing that breaks my heart. Hmph. Lost memories. I don't approve of that. And oh, I hope there is a way for her to get them back. I want that a whole lot. Yet it was also an awesome sort-of-twist. And it made sense. Still, sad to me. There is also another thing about lost things. Lost memories. Was so creepy! And so extremely perfect.

One of the things I loved the most about this book were the relationship between Kara and Taff. They are the cutest siblings. And I loved reading about them together. How much they both protect each other. Sniffs. Then there is their father. Whom isn't in this book, but still. I am so curious about it. I must know if there is a way to save him. There is just so much I must know. It isn't really a cliffhanger ending, but it is an ending that demands more. And I need more. Cannot wait for book three. <3

The Thickety: The Whispering Trees is such an amazing sequel. It is full of adventure and surprises. It is full of darkness. Yet full of love too, as it has the best sibling relationship. Kara and Taff are the best to read about. And I cannot wait to read more of their story. Though book three better include Lucas too, lol. As I need him and Kara together. <3 They would be so cute. Since there is already something there, hih. Anyway. You all need to read this book. Because it is perfect and I loved it so much. Go order it.

I want to say a huge thank you to the publisher, Katherine Tegen Books, for letting me read this gorgeous book as an eARC via Edelweiss. <3 While I do wish with all my heart that I had a print copy, I'm just so happy that I got to read it. And it is still a stunning book, even though I do think the artwork inside looks even more gorgeous in print. Which I will be seeing in my hardcover in March, when this awesome book comes out. I'm so glad I read it now, and did not wait, hih. As this book was amazing. Also, J. A. White is an awesome author. And so kind too. I cannot wait to read more books by him :)

This cover is still one of the most gorgeous. I just love it so much. And I think An Ember in the Ashes sounds so amazing. I'm just worried that there might be a love triangle. Hmph. I'm hoping there won't be, though, hih. <3 Still. I'm pretty sure I will love this book. And I cannot wait to read it. Just wishing it was April yet. <3 As, yeah. Laia and Elias sounds amazing so far and I cannot wait to get to know them.
What are you waiting for on this exciting wednesday?

Book Recommendation: The Thickety: A Path Begins by J. A. White

I just read this book in May. But I seem to have forgotten a bunch of it. So I had to re-read it. <3 Okay, I didn't have to, but I really, really wanted to. And I'm so glad that I did. Because this book is all kinds of awesome. But so damn sad. And heartbreaking. Yet it is full of magic and adventure and it is so much fun and it has so many feelings. Kara is the best main character. And I loved re-reading her story. I cannot wait to get started on my eARC of book two in a moment. <3 I'm just so excited to read more.

I will try not to write another long review of this book. Because I have just done so, it feels, yet I cannot help but talk about some things. And I just need you all to read The Thickety: A Path Begins. Because it is so exciting. And different. Though I have read a few books since May that reminded me so much of this. Yet they are not the same, though all were awesome. This book is different, though. It is so much fun to read. But in a dark way. Life for Kara is the worst and my heart is still breaking over it. So sad.

There is so much I love about this book. I love that there is magic. That there is a small village living in a cursed island. And they are all acting kind of crazy. Yet I loved reading about the way they live. So interesting and different. I enjoyed that they all hated witches. Though I do not approve. Because the book begins with Kara at five years old. Having to watch her mom get murdered for being a witch. It was the worst. Not full on details, but still so awful. The people are a bit crazy. But yes. So interesting.

The book is told from the point of view of twelve year old Kara. Whom is all kinds of adorable. I just love her to pieces. And her little brother, Taff, who is seven. I just loved reading about their life. How sick Taff is. How they miss their mother. How they aren't sure if they should love her or not. How their father is there, but not really there. How the people of the village treat them. How they are almost starving. It all made my heart ache. And it is so good. And I wanted to read more and more about it.

Not all of the people are mean, though. Kara has one friend, Lucas. Whom I really wish there were more about, hih. Because he is the bestest friend. And there could be so much more between them. And there is a beginning of a romance. But nothing yet. Hmph. Then there is that ending. And I fear there won't be a romance. But I wish it. Because I adored Lucas and I would love to read more about him and Kara together. As he was a true friend to her. And I loved that. I just loved that so much. It's the very best.

I won't say all the things about this book. Probably not. There is just so much. Yet the book is read really, really fast, so I don't think it's that long. Which is okay. Because there are sequels. But yeah. I do not have enough of this story. I loved the adventure and mystery about this book. I loved reading about the magic, and how it must be used. And the characters. Sigh. Grace. Just, oh god. She is an awful little girl. And I didn't like her at all. And Simon. I felt so sorry for him, but I still hated him. Hmph. Not nice.

I think what I liked the most about this book was The Thickety. The mysterious forest. And I cannot wait to get to read more about it in the sequel. As that ending? So evil. Yet so awesome too. I cannot wait to read more about Kara and Taff. And just everything. Anyway. I just wanted to share my love for this book, again, hih. Because I do love it. I love it so much. I even read it twice. This year. And I will probably read it lots more in the future. As I don't think I will ever stop loving this book. I hope not :)

If you have not read The Thickety: A Path Begins yet, I suggest that you do so. Because it is stunning. It is heartbreaking. And it is full of magic. This is one of the best books I have read. And it will stay in my heart for a long time. The story of Kara and Taff is beautiful. And I cannot wait to get to know them even more. So yeah. I'm really, really glad that I decided to re-read this beautiful book. And ack. Yess. Look at that cover. Isn't it just all kinds of stunning? There is some gorgeous artwork inside too. <3

I'm a witch. Just like my mother.

Cover Reveal: The Golden Specific by S. E. Grove

I cannot wait to read The Golden Specific. I read book one, The Glass Sentence, back in July. Which I adored. It was a four star review for me, and I am just dying to read more about Sophia and Theo :D Summary says this book takes place one year after the end of book one. So I might be hoping that there is some romance between Sophia and Theo, hih. <3 Crossing my fingers. This book is coming out on July 14th, and I cannot wait. I just know this will be awesome. And exciting. And so damn good. So excited for it :D Anyway. The cover! Isn't it stunning? It is different from others, and it is so pretty. I cannot wait to own it. Also, the cover for book one that I'm using below, is the newish paperback cover that is coming out next year too. <3 Cannot wait to own this one as well. So gorgeous. What do you think? :)

The eagerly-awaited sequel to the best-selling The Glass Sentence -- a historical, fantastical adventure perfect for fans of Philip Pullman!

It is the summer of 1892, one year since Sophia Tims and her friend Theo embarked upon the dangerous adventure that rewrote the map of the world. Since their return home to Boston, she has continued searching for clues to her parents’ disappearance, combing archives and libraries, grasping at even the most slender leads. Theo has apprenticed himself to an explorer in order to follow those leads across the country—but one after another proves to be a dead end.

Then Sophia discovers that a crucial piece of the puzzle exists in a foreign Age. At the same time, Theo discovers that his old life outside the law threatens to destroy the new one he has built with Sophia and her uncle Shadrack. What he and Sophia do not know is that their separate discoveries are intertwined, and that one remarkable person is part of both.

There is a city that holds all of the answers—but it cannot be found on any map. Surrounded by plague, it can only be reached by a journey through darkness and chaos, which is at the same time the plague’s cure: The Golden Specific.

Cover Reveal: Illusionarium by Heather Dixon

Ack! I am so excited about this book. It's been forever since I read the first book by this author, Entwined, but I loved it so so so much. There isn't a full summary for this yet, but oh. I love what little I know of it so far. Sounds and looks so good. I just know that I will love Illusionarium. Because seriously. Do you see this gorgeous cover? There is couple on it. And I love romances in my books. And ack. I just have a feeling this will be one very, very amazing romance. <3 Crossing my fingers. The rest of the cover is stunning too. Sigh. I just want this book so badly. May 19th better arrive fast. Waiting is torture. But yeah. I do know I will love this book. Wants it now. <3 What to you think of the cover? :D

From the author of Entwined, a brilliantly conceived adventure through an alternate London. This sweeping, cinematic tale of an apprentice scientist desperate to save his family—and his world—is The Night Circus meets Pixar.

Through richly developed parallel worlds, vivid action, a healthy dose of humor, and gorgeous writing, Heather Dixon spins a story that is breathtaking and wholly original.

Review: The Body Electric by Beth Revis

I don't know how to feel about this book. I loved it to pieces, like I knew I would, but I'm also feeling this small ache in my heart. The Body Electric is a five star for me. Because it was so so amazing and I loved it so much. There is just this one part that is hurting my heart and I'm not sure how to deal with it.

So I will start by mentioning all the things that made this book perfect. And there are a lot of them. First there is the gorgeous cover made by Hafsah, whom is also all kinds of awesome. This cover. Sigh. It is stunning. And gorgeous in person. And all the special swag I got. Dies. All of the artwork is just so perfect.

Then there is the amazing author, Beth. I loved her other books, beginning with Across the Universe. And then I just adore her. She's so awesome on twitter and yeah. All kinds of cute. I also met her for a short moment two years ago, at Ascendio, which was one of the best moments of my life. Anyway. Beth is awesome. And I love the way she tells a story. And I love her writing. And yeah. I just cannot wait to read everything that she writes. Back to this book, though. Sigh. I cannot. It was just so good. I loved it so so much. I wasn't planning on reading it so fast, but damn, it was SO EXCITING. I could not stop. Not even for short moments. And I'm so glad I read it right away. As I've waited so long for this book already, hih. And the wait was worth it. Truly. Yeah, I wanted more of one thing, but I also got so much from this book. <3

I'm not sure where to begin to talk about The Body Electric. There is so much happening in this book. So many things that confused me a little, but then made so much sense, and broke my heart to pieces. There are a lot of sad parts in this book. And they are all written so well. But there are also a few sweet parts as well. Sniffs. And they are stunning too. The book is not focused on the romance, sad face, lol, but that's okay. Because the plot is all kinds of exciting and so interesting to read about. Just, so good.

The Body Electric is told from the point of view of Ella. Whom I adored to pieces. She is from Malta. Though a few hundred years into the future. And things are different. And it is all so interesting to read about and I just adore the way Beth tells a story. I loved that their town is built on a huge bridge, so many meters above the ocean. It was creepy and interesting and I would love to see it in real life. Sigh. One day, maybe. I loved the details about this future. So interesting and awesomely made. I loved it.

Anyway. Back to Ella. Whom is all kinds of amazing. I just loved reading from her point of view. And getting to know her. And how she lives. With her mom who is sick and dying. With her dad being dead, aka murdered. With them working at a memory spa kind of thing. And oh. It is just all so interesting to read about and I loved getting to know it all. I loved getting to know the different characters. Some creeped me out. Some I weren't sure about at all. But I loved reading about every one of them.

There is also Jack. Sigh. Whom claims to know Ella. That they were dating for a year. Yet she cannot remember a single thing about him. AND GAH. It killed me. It was so beautifully done. And so damn heartbreaking. My heart is still breaking for Jack. He lost his parents as well. Then Ella for more than a year. And oh. It just hurts. Yet so well done too. I do wish there had been more romance. I truly do. But I also liked that there was just a small part of it. And it is pretty beautiful, that small part. Sniffs.

I will not say all that much about the plot. But there are some things. I loved reading about the Reverie. How it works. How you can relive your memories. And how that can be controlled too. There are so many surprises about it. And I loved getting to know it all. This book surprised me so much. And it was all so exciting. I could not stop reading. I did not want to. But at the same time I did not want to finish. Because I did not want this perfect book to be over. Hmph. How mean for it to end so soon for me, lol.

I almost forgot to add this one part. But I cannot not say it. There is one part in the book I did not see coming at all. Something with Ella. And it is so mean. Yet so awesome. And so perfect. And so cruel. And my heart. Hurts! I cannot. It was so clever too. I did not see it coming. And it hurt me. And it made me worry so much and ack. Yet it was so exciting and I loved it so much. Sigh. Ella was just all kinds of amazing. And Jack. And just everything. I just loved The Body Electric to pieces. <3 It was the best.

There is so much I could say about The Body Electric. I have said most of it. Now I will just say that this book is perfect. It is surprising and exciting. It is scary and creepy too. The bees. Shudders. But mostly The Body Electric is a book that everyone needs to read. It is just so good. And I need you all to read it. Right away. It is worth the small heartache when finishing. Because it is perfect. I'm so glad that I read this book. Sniffs. Though, yeah. I really, really want more. More of Ella. More of Jack. I have hope. <3

"Science can make a heart beat," Jack says softly,
each word falling on me like a caress. "But it can't make it race."

Cover Reveal: Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

Oh! I am very excited about this book. As I adored the other book by this author, Cruel Beauty. This is not a sequel. As it is set in a different world. But it will be just as awesome, I'm sure. Because this cover. Sigh. It is stunning. I love it so much. The colors are gorgeous. And the summary! Ack. It sounds a bit creepy and all kinds of amazing. I'm hoping to really love this romance, hih. <3 I just cannot wait for this book. May 5th is too far away. So excited. What do you think of the cover? Isn't it gorgeous? :D

When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless— straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her find the legendary sword that might save their world. As the two become unexpected allies, they uncover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. In a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?

Inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, Crimson Bound is an exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption.

Preview Review: The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig

This will be just a short post, to let you know about this awesome book coming out in February. I was lucky enough to get a short sampler of The Fire Sermon via the UK publisher; Harper Voyager. <3 Thank you so much. Though now I am a bit sad, as the sample was awesome. I need more of this amazing story.

This sampler is very short, yet also so good. I'm super curious about this world. Where everyone is born a twin, one Alpha, one Omega. One whole, one damaged. One rich, one poor. Yeah. I am very interested in this plot. I got to know some in this sampler, but not enough. It just all seems so so awesome.

I'm not sure if this book is young adult or not. I hope so. But I will read it either way, as it seems so good already. But yess. I need to know how old the main character is. We see a little bit about her in this sampler. Cass seems amazing so far. Though my heart is breaking a little, as she is in a cell in the beginning of this book. Yeah. I need to know more. And I cannot wait to get my hardcover of this book in February. Really hoping and thinking that I will love it :D Hoping there might be a romance too, hih, though there doesn't need to be. Anyway. I'm not saying more about this, because the sampler is just, just wanted to share my thoughts and say that I really enjoyed this peek at The Fire Sermon. I think you should pre-order it right now. <3

Review: The Young Elites by Marie Lu

It feels like I have waited forever for this book. And now I have finally gotten to read it. I always knew I was going to love it, but I was nervous about starting it as well. It was different from what I was expecting. Which was all kinds of awesome. I ended up really loving this book. Which just makes me really happy.

But oh. I'm not sure about my feelings for The Young Elites. I really loved this book. But a few things bothered me. Yet I didn't hate it. Not at all. Which is why this book is a five star for me. Because I loved it. And I didn't want it to end. The writing is stunning. The story is all kinds of amazing. Just really good.

But then there is that ending. It is so evil. And happened in a surprising and cruel way. I knew it was coming, but not how it happened. And just. That was mean. Yet written pretty awesome too. But yeah. There are hints about what may happen. And it better happen. It better. Otherwise I might end up being very sad for a very long time. Which is just all kinds of depressing. Anyway. The ending. It is evil. Yet fitting too, in a way. It made sense. Probably. Or not. It hurt my heart, anyway. But I have hope. I just. I wish Adelina had been more trusting. And told people the truth. I hated how she lied all the time. I'm not pleased with that. And then she thought the worst right away as well. I don't blame someone for not trusting her. As she was a bit dark and not in control of herself. She made so many bad decisions that I did not like.

Yet. Yet I really did love Adelina. She is an awesome character. And oh so broken. I love to have my favorite characters to be broken. And I just loved reading about her past, and how kind of awful it was. It could have been worse, but yeah. It was bad enough. And though she is broken she is also strong. And I adored reading about her. But at the same time, she does some awful things to people. And I'm not sure I like her all that much, lol. I both love and hate her. Either way, she is an awesome main character.

There are a whole bunch of characters in this book. Some I really hated. Like Teren. I'm not sure about him. I will never like him, but he is an interesting character to read about. But yeah. A person that I will not ever like. Sigh. Then there is Enzo. Whom is the love interest. And there is just so little romance. Sad face. But what is in the book is pretty awesome. Anyway. Enzo is an amazing character. I adored him. A bit scary. And his powers. Sigh. All kinds of awesome. Yeah. I really loved Enzo. My favorite.

Then there is Raffaele. I thought he might end up being a love interest, making it a triangle. But Marie told me no love triangles in these books. But yeah. I worried. Because he is the most beautiful. And he makes Adelina feel things. Hmph. But there is nothing there. Just a cute friendship. Sort of. There is no romance or lust just some feelings. Which made me happy. Yet. I ended up really loving Raffaele. And I want all the best for him. But yeah, I do not want him with Adelina. Not ever, lol. He's amazing, though.

There are too many characters for me to mention. Just know that I enjoyed reading about them all. Adelina also has a sister. Whom I really enjoyed reading about. Couldn't decide if I was supposed to hate her or love her. But yeah. I grew to love her. As she is a pretty amazing character too. And I cannot wait to get to know her more as well. Sigh. I just felt like this book was way too short. I want to know more. I need more. About all the characters. About the evil ending. About the amazing plot. I need it all.

I could say so much about the story in this book. But I shall not. Just a few small things. It is all kinds of perfect. It is different and so so good. I loved the world it is set in. I loved the different things. I just loved all of it. I loved reading about the damaged young people. About the Young Elites as well. It was all so so interesting and I just need to know more. I do. I am seriously dying to read book two. Hoping the next year will move fast. I won't say more about this plot. Just that I loved it to pieces and I need more.

There are so many things I loved about The Young Elites. The writing is stunning. The characters are broken and dark. The plot is exciting and surprising and scary at times. This book is just all kinds of amazing. And I'm so glad that I finally got to read it. I need you all to read this book as well. Because it is different and just so good. I loved reading about Adelina. Though she is so dark inside. I just hope she's able to change. Sigh. Yet I love her darkness as well. Though, maybe a little less of it, hih. <3

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

TALON BY JULIE KAGAWA

Goodreads Description:

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

She is just all kinds of awesome. But there is a love triangle in this series. And I'm not sure how I will deal with that. But then, Julie did talk to me a little bit about it. So I'm hoping I will end up loving it :D Crossing my fingers. As Talon sounds so so good. <3 I cannot wait. Also shared about the cover, here, in April. <3

She'd taken his ship. That witch had taken his ship. But the Rampion had a second shuttle. His crew could still come for them. Would come for them. But then he sensed something new--a slight pull, a gentle shift--and the girl whimpered. The satellite's trajectory had been altered. Gravity was claiming them, drawing them out of their orbit. The satellite was falling toward Earth.
